About Ranchers Feed & Supply

Kenneth and Verna Barker, and their son Kelvin, purchased the feed mill in Edgemont, SD in 1985. The mill was going out of business and Kenneth saw a need to keep the store in the community. Ranchers Feed and Supply, Inc. began as a feed store, serving area ranchers with livestock feed, custom feed mixes, and scale services. Verna ran the day to day operations while Kenneth and Kelvin also ran Barker Concrete in Edgemont. 

In the early 90’s, the Hardware Hank store went out of business in Edgemont. Kenneth, Verna and Kelvin took over the Hardware Hank dealership and inventory. This expanded the business to include hardware, paint, key cutting and glass cutting in addition to the feed business that had become a staple in the community. 

Ranchers Feed and Supply continued to grow and prosper, expanding the customer base to Eastern Wyoming. In 2012, Kenneth and Verna’s son, Kerry and his wife Stephanie, invested into the company. Verna joined Kenneth in retirement at this time. 

In 2014, an opportunity arose in Lusk, Wyoming to purchase Niobrara Feed and Supply from Richard Ladwig. This business was a long-standing staple in the Lusk community and was a natural fit for the Ranchers Feed and Supply family. This store concentrated on livestock feed, feeders, water tanks, veterinary supplies and vaccines, along with pipeline parts to accommodate this ranching community. 

In 2019, Kenneth and Verna’s son, Kurt and his wife Laura, invested into Ranchers Feed and Supply. They played an active role in the purchase and opening of the latest store in Newcastle, Wyoming. The common theme of fulfilling the need for products and services in a specific community lead them to provide livestock feed and supplies as well as scale services in this location. 

The backbone of Ranchers Feed and Supply, Inc. was built on strong family ties, progressive minds and the need to see the communities they lived and worked in, succeed and prosper.
